Slievemoyle Cottages (Mill Cottage)

Mill Cottage is a tastefully converted and quite unique 17th century corn mill. It is part of a cluster of 4 cottages situated on our hill farm, which overlooks the Irish Sea. It has lovely original features including quarry tiled floors, exposed stonework, deep windowsills, and vaulted ceilings. Five guests will sleep very comfortably in the two bedrooms, in either super king or single beds - whichever is your preference. The cute bathroom has a storage cupboard, and a powerful shower over the bath.

The cosy cottage has a very well-equipped, open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room, with comfortable sofas and vintage pine furniture. We set the wood burning stove so it's ready to light when you wish - and provide a complimentary basket of logs. More are available on site.

The double doors from the sitting room lead to a paved patio facing West for lovely evening sun and amazing sunsets. There is a wooden picnic table and benches for meals outside and plenty of parking space too. At the side of the cottage is a area of lawn for picnics and play, edged by ash trees and an old stone wall, with lovely views of Castle Mahon mountain. Make time to trek to our look-out - the views are well worth the climb. Explore the rest of our wildlife trails which lead from the cottage around our 56 acre hill farm. Follow the maps in your cottage or ask us for the best routes. Remember to pack your walking boots!

In 2019 Slievemoyle Cottages were awarded a Gold Award in the Green Tourism Business Scheme.  We work in partnership with the RSPB and Ulster Wildlife in creating a haven for wildlife - and were featured in 2022 in the BBC's Chronicles of Strangford Lough. Places to visit in the immediate area include the lovely Castle Ward National Trust property, Clear Sky Activity Centre (aka Winterfell - Game of Thrones), pretty Strangford village with its award-winning restaurants - and beautiful Kilclief and Ballyhornan beaches. Follow the Mourne Coastal Route to Ardglass, Killough, and beyond to Newcastle and the Mourne Mountains. Or go by ferry to Portaferry and the Ards Penninsula, through the unique towns and villages around Strangford Lough - a 50 mile loop if you wish - back to historic Downpatrick and home to Slievemoyle. Belfast City is only a 50 minute drive away - and the Causeway Coastal Route to the famous North Coast is do-able in a day.

We live on site and are always happy to help or advsie.  Looking forward to welcoming you soon!
