Slievemoyle Cottages (Rose Cottage)
The original seventeenth century house on our hill farm, Rose cottage has been tastefully restored to retain its character and traditional cottage features- a crook and crane over the open fire, exposed stonework, quarry tiled floors and half-doors. Happily for our guests, we added the comforts of oil central heating, hot water and electrical appliances.
The roses and honeysuckle around the red painted doors only hint at the cottage's delightful interior. The sitting/dining room has the open fire, a vaulted wood panelled ceiling, two comfortable sofas and an oak dining table and chairs. Next to it is the well equipped little kitchen with everything you need for cooking and dining for four people and more. To one side is a cute bedroom with a set of bunks, while on the other side of the house is the pretty double bedroom with en suite shower room. There is also a separate bathroom, with a shower over the bath.
At the front of the cottage is the walled orchard garden - great for picnics and playtime- with fruit trees, shrubs, lawn and a wooden deck with a wooden table and benches for meals with a view of the Irish Sea. There is also plenty of parking space just outside at the back.
The cottage is situated 500 metres off the main road, on a south facing wooded hillside which has amazing views across the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man. These are best seen from the look out points on our way marked wildlife trails around the farm. Follow the maps in the cottage or ask us for advice on the best routes and remember your strong walking shoes or boots.
Castle Ward National Trust property and clear Sky Activity Centre are just down the road. Strangford Lough and Village (three great restaurants), the ferry to Portaferry, Kilclief and Ballyhornan beaches, the Down Coastal Route to Newcastle/ the Mournes and historic Downpatrick.
So much to see and do and only a short distance away.
In 2015 Slievemoyle Cottages were awarded a Silver Award in the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
