Ballyholme Beach

Ballyholme Beach is a suburb beach in the seaside town of Bangor. The beach is sandy and is approximately 1.3 km in length. There is a typical rocky shore at each end. The majority of Ballyholme Beach is backed by a seawall and promenade. The far eastern end of the bathing water is backed by a privately owned woodland area. A car park, public toilets and children’s play area are also located here. Public toilets and a smaller children’s play area are located at the western end. The residential suburb of Ballyholme surrounds the bathing water and Ballyholme Yacht Club is adjacent to the bathing area at the western end. There are a number of groynes crossing Ballyholme Beach. Bathing water signage including safety information is displayed at the beach and bathing water information will be provided from June - September annually.

THERE IS NO LIFEGUARD SERVICE OPERATING AT THIS BEACH. Facilities: Car Parking, (Please note the car park closes at 11pm and opens at 5am) Child Friendly Areas, Dogs Allowed, Toilets. The best approach to Ballymacormick Point is by Groomsport, although at low tide it is possible to reach it from the east end of Ballyholme Beach. It is accessible all year round. The following facilities are available for users with limited mobility: disabled toilets and disabled parking. Water quality is Good. Ballymacormick Point, this rocky outcrop is located between Ballyholme and the little village of Groomsport. Covered in gorse, it is good for rough walking and for spotting birds, flowers and foxes.

Bangor is 30 minutes drive from Belfast on the A2; Ballyholme Beach is located on the eastern side, less than 1mile from the Town Centre.Directions from Town:From Bangor continue along Seacliff Road for approximately 1 and 1/2 miles.

Buses and trains operate regularly from Belfast to Bangor Bus & Railway Station. Local Town Service Bus 302A Bangor Town Service to Towerview drives past Ballyholme Beach.


Getting to the start on foot

Ballyholme Beach is easily accessible by foot from the Town Centre of Bangor.
