Larne Town Parks

The sea plays an important role in defining the identify and character of these parkland areas and all sites are linked via walkways. Chaine Park is 1.28 hectares and was named in honour of James Chaine, who developed the sea route to Scotland and who contributed much to the development of Larne Harbour. It overlooks the North Channel and is an attractive spot from which to admire the magnificent views towards Scotland. It includes a historical burying place for the Chaine family, shelters, ornamental shrub planting, a flowing stream to a small boating pond and a basketball court. The Town Park consists of 8.3 hectares and contains 3 tennis courts, a 5-aside soccer pitch, children’s playground, public toilets, shelters, bandstand, mature trees and tree lined walks, woodland, ornamental shrubs, flower bedding and large flat areas of open grass for ball games and play. The children's playground has a planetary and out of this world feel and is aimed at slightly older children. The parks are close to local landmarks such as the Princess Victoria Memorial, the Clyde Valley Memorial and the William Bald Memorial, dedicated to the engineer and the men who built the Antrim Coast Road. The ‘Promenade’ is fully accessible to the public from Town Park via a pedestrian link known as ‘The Snake Path’ which gives access around the coastline passing the leisure centre and leading to Chaine Memorial Tower, built also in honour of James Chaine, and beyond to the harbour.
