Whitepark Bay

The spectacular sandy beach forms a white arc between two headlands on the North Antrim coast. In this secluded location, even on a busy day there is plenty of room for quiet relaxation.

Whitepark Bay beach is backed by ancient dunes that provide a range of rich habitats, a haven for wildlife, with diverse habitats that house butterflies, orchids, birds, otters and sea life. Enjoy lazy summer days, picnics, making sandcastles and long walks. You'll find that even on a busy day, this is a secluded and relaxing place to be. Look for the Elephant Rock. Did you know there are cows on the beach? They are some of the most photographed cows in Northern Ireland. As they wander along White Park Bay, they end up in loads of people's selfies and, as a result, all over social media! But they are not just there for an interesting shot. The cattle carry out a very special part of the conservation work around the sand dunes of the beach Limited Parking. No Toilets.

Access all year. Our car park is open. We have limited spaces, so if the car park is full please come back another time. The beach is unsafe for swimming due to dangerous rip currents.

Getting to the start by car

Directions from Town:Train: Service from Belfast or Londonderry to Coleraine. Bus: Ulsterbus No 218 from Belfast terminates in Portstewart. Cycle: NCN route 93 runs past the Strand. Car: The Strand is a few minutes from the centre of Portstewart. Drive time: Belfast 1.15 hours
